Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, son of former governor Adams Oshiomhole, as the new Commissioner for Health– a move many have seen as compensation for Oshiomhole’s role in Okpebholo’s emergence as governor.
The announcement was made on Tuesday through a statement by Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
“The nomination of Oshiomhole will be confirmed by the Edo State House of Assembly when they are forwarded soon by Governor Okpebholo,” the statement read.
Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomhole boasts an impressive educational background.
He began his academic journey at St. Anne’s Primary School and Command Secondary School before attending Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS).
Furthering his studies abroad, Oshiomhole obtained a Master of Science in Public Health (MSPH) from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine in New Orleans, with a focus on Environmental Health, Toxicology, and Disaster Management.
He also pursued postgraduate training in Clinical Research at Harvard University, Boston, and studied Gastroenterology at Queen Mary University in London.
With his extensive background in health and medicine, Dr. Oshiomhole’s appointment signals a new chapter for Edo State’s healthcare sector.
