The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has reported a sharp increase in the price of kerosene, further tightening the financial pressures on households across Nigeria.
In its latest price watch report, the NBS disclosed that kerosene prices have risen both month-on-month and year-on-year.
The North Central region recorded the highest retail prices, with Abuja, Kaduna, and Akwa Ibom topping the list.
According to the report, the average retail price per litre of Household Kerosene (HHK) in October 2024 surged to N2,017.44, marking a 3.07% increase from N1,957.44 in September 2024.
Year-on-year, this represents a staggering 54.81% rise from the N1,303.16 recorded in October 2023.
Similarly, the average retail price per gallon of kerosene rose by 1.94% to N6,949.75 in October, up from N6,818.11 in September.
On a yearly basis, this is a 51.68% increase from the N4,581.89 recorded in October 2023.
The state-by-state analysis revealed that Abuja recorded the highest average price per litre at N2,875.00, followed by Akwa Ibom (N2,518.89) and Kaduna (N2,500.79).
Conversely, Borno had the lowest price at N1,500.30, followed by Bayelsa (N1,500.67) and Adamawa (N1,679.19).
On a regional basis, the North Central region had the highest average retail price per litre at N2,242.67, while the South East recorded the lowest at N1,772.94.
For prices by gallon, Katsina led with an average price of N8,900.50, trailed by Jigawa (N8,500.00) and Kebbi (N8,300.00).
The lowest gallon prices were recorded in Adamawa (N5,300.44), Nassarawa (N5,325.41), and Niger (N5,381.88).
Regionally, the North-West recorded the highest average price per gallon at N8,070.54, while the North Central had the lowest at N6,176.20.
