Simon Ekpa, a separatist agitator and self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, has been remanded in prison by a Finnish court.
The Päijät-Häme District Court ordered his detention following allegations of spreading terrorist propaganda on social media.
The Finnish National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) apprehended Ekpa alongside four other individuals for alleged terrorist offenses.
Reports indicate that Ekpa’s actions date back to 2021 in Lahti municipality, where he is accused of incitement with terrorist intent.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Finnish Central Criminal Police confirmed the arrests, stating:
“The police said the main suspect was arrested ‘on suspicion of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent,’ while, ‘four other persons are suspected of financing the aforementioned activity. All five suspects of the crime have been arrested during the beginning of the week.’
“International cooperation has been carried out during the preliminary investigation.”
The statement further noted that claims would be heard at the Päijät-Häme District Court on November 21.
Ekpa has faced mounting criticism for his alleged role in the Sit-At-Home directives, which have severely disrupted economic activities across Nigeria’s South East region.
