Atsi Kefas, sister to Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, was allegedly shot by a police escort during a gunmen attack on Thursday.
The incident, reported by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication specializing in the Lake Chad region, occurred along Kente Road in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Governor Kefas’s mother, Jumai, and sister, Atsi, were ambushed by gunmen while traveling.
According to the report, a police officer assigned to escort the family “accidentally shot Atsi” while attempting to repel the attackers.
Troops quickly intervened, rescuing the victims and evacuating Jumai and Atsi Kefas using an air ambulance. Atsi was rushed to the hospital for treatment, although her condition remains undisclosed as of this report.
Security forces later recovered the assailants’ abandoned vehicle, which contained an empty magazine and passenger luggage.
Authorities have yet to confirm further details regarding the perpetrators or the ongoing investigation.
