A female street sweeper, Anna Zadabin, tragically lost her life last Friday in Dutsen-Alhaji, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), after being struck by a high voltage electrical wire.
The sad incident happened near the Open University Centre along the Abuja-Kubwa expressway around 1 pm while Anna was working alongside her colleagues.
The wire reportedly fell suddenly, killing her instantly.
According to her relative, Hajara, who spoke to Abuja Metro, Anna’s remains were initially deposited at the Kubwa General Hospital morgue but were later retrieved for burial in her family compound.
“That was the wish of the deceased, that she should be buried on the day she passed on,” Hajara said.
Hajara also revealed that Anna had a demanding schedule, starting her work at 6 am and ending at 3 pm daily.
“Some of them used to start the street cleaning from the Dutsen-Alhaji gate and move down to the expressway. Her schedule often started from a billboard along the expressway to the Phase 2 area, and thereafter she would cross to the other lane to repeat the same thing,” she explained.
The District Head of Dutsen-Alhaji, Alhaji Abubakar Bako, confirmed the tragic incident, further highlighting the dangers street sweepers face in the line of duty.
