The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has likened Abia State Governor Alex Otti to a prodigal son, expressing confidence that he will return to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Otti, who previously left the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the APC in 2020, later joined the Labour Party, under which he secured victory in the 2023 general elections.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Abia International Airport in Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, Keyamo addressed Otti’s political journey.
“Today is not the day for politics. He strayed away, he was with us, he strayed away like the prodigal son,” he said.
Keyamo also highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s fondness for Governor Otti, which he noted influenced the federal government’s decision to approve the airport project.
“The President’s motivation was also the fact that he loves the governor of this state, he loves his spirit. I know the comments he has made about the governor of this state and how much people here love him so much.”
The groundbreaking ceremony comes amidst concerns from the Nsulu community, whose residents recently protested the government’s use of communal land for the proposed airport. Despite the outcry, the project has been hailed as a major step toward boosting Abia’s infrastructure and economic development.
