The Joint Task Force North-West, operating under ‘Operation Fansan Yamma,’ has reiterated that recent airstrikes in Sokoto State targeted Lakurawa terrorist strongholds, dismissing claims of civilian casualties.

This clarification follows reports alleging that a military fighter jet bombed civilian structures in two villages in the Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for Operation Fansan Yamma, argued that military operations are guided by thorough intelligence and reconnaissance.

“This rigorous process is particularly important when targeting groups like the Lakurawa terrorist organization, as it aims to ensure precision and protect civilian lives,” Abdullahi said.

The military urged the public to rely on verified information to avoid panic and misinformation.

“There is a significant risk that terrorist groups may attempt to undermine military successes through media disinformation, necessitating caution concerning unverified claims, especially in the ongoing fight against terrorism and banditry,” Abdullahi warned.

According to the military, the areas struck near Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa were confirmed to be associated with the Lakurawa group.

“Importantly, the targets struck in the vicinity of Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa have been positively identified as associated with the Lakurawa group, reinforcing the justification for the military action taken,” the statement concluded.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to precision in its operations while urging public cooperation in the ongoing fight against insurgency and banditry.
