Activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has lamented that Nigeria is sinking into a full-blown dictatorship.
Adeyanju made the remark in response to claims by former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi that his life was under threat.
Posting on X, the activist lawyer said no harm or persecution must come to Obi.
According to Adeyanju: “I condemn the threat to HE Peter Obi’s life for been a vocal voice of opposition in Nigeria. No harm or persecution must come to him.
“Criticizing and holding the government accountable cannot be a crime but must be commended as the greatest sign of patriotism.
Nigeria is sinking into a full-blown dictatorship and a one party state before our very eyes and all the concerns of HE Peter Obi are timely and spot on.”
MUKTV had reported Obi as saying his life was under threat due to his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Obi made the allegation after the National spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Felix Morka, said the former Anambra State governor has crossed the line so many times.
Morka had claimed that Obi would get whatever is coming to him.
But, Obi lamented that Nigeria is increasingly transforming into an authoritarian and repressive regime, where freedom of expression is being systematically suppressed.
He said he would not be silenced in his resolve to speak truthfully, especially as the nation continues to drift toward undemocratic practices.
