Activist and legal advocate Adama Paul James has decried the rising wave of online attacks targeting the Christian faith and prominent clerics across Nigeria.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Adama condemned the spread of defamatory statements, libelous accusations, and malicious content on social media platforms and blogs.

His statements followed the arrest and detention of a former pastor-turned-atheist, Abraham Daniel, alongside two others, on charges of defamation.

“These individuals have consistently used their platforms to launch baseless allegations against the Church and its leaders, seeking to demean and drag the Christian faith into disrepute,” Adama said.

He identified Abraham Daniel as a central figure in the attacks, accusing him of repeatedly insulting clerics, making defamatory remarks about the Church, and branding Christianity as a scam.

“Such actions are not only reckless but are also capable of inciting religious tensions in an already fragile nation. This blatant abuse of social media poses a grave threat to religious harmony and national peace,” Adama warned.

The lawyer disclosed that he has petitioned relevant authorities to curb these attacks, resulting in the arrest of some of those involved.

Adama praised the Nigerian Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies for their swift response in tackling the issue.

“These efforts are crucial in safeguarding religious harmony and ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable for their actions,” he argued.
