The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Abraham Amah, has attributed the party’s defeat in the 2023 general elections to internal sabotage and mismanagement of resources.

Speaking at an Abia North stakeholders and reconciliation meeting held in Abam, Arochukwu Local Government Area, Amah highlighted key reasons for the loss, including the selection of unsuitable candidates and the embezzlement of election funds by party members.

“We know why we lost the election. We lost because of several reasons: party against the party, the Peter Obi wave, wrong candidates, and collecting party money and running away with it,” he said.

Amah acknowledged that the loss was a wake-up call for the party and provided valuable lessons. “If we did not lose that election, a lot of us wouldn’t have a say today. We are speaking today because we lost that election. If we had not lost that election, some people would not have allowed others to sit at the table.”

He noted that being out of power has taught the party a hard lesson. “As a party, being out of government has taught us a lesson. We have known that indeed, failure is an orphan and that success is a favourite of everybody.”

The chairman assured party members of a brighter future, urging them to reconcile and unite to reclaim the state in the 2027 elections. “A mistake was made. I come here as a party chairman to appeal to every one of us, let us forgive ourselves and move forward. I assure you we are going to win back power by the grace of God.”

Amah expressed optimism that the party could recover its influence across the state, adding, “There are truths we must tell ourselves – in some LGAs, the APC, PDP, and the LP have eaten deep, but I want to assure you that the situation is not bad to the extent that we cannot recover our party. This time, we will recover the party.”
