Terror gripped the Nkaleha community in Ebonyi State as Fulani herdsmen launched a brutal attack on Amagu, leaving over 30 people dead, including six worshippers and their pastor, who were gunned down inside the Lord’s Chosen Church on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

What should have been a peaceful day of worship turned into a nightmare. “We were in the middle of prayers when we heard the first shot. At first, we thought it was something else—until more gunshots followed, and people started screaming,” a survivor recounted, his voice shaking with fear.

The assailants showed no mercy, opening fire as worshippers scrambled for safety. “They shot them right inside the church,” a witness recalled, struggling to hold back tears. “People ran, but where could they go? They were trapped.” Blood stained the church floor, a chilling testament to the horror that unfolded.

Nkaleha borders Ehamufu, a neighboring community that has suffered similar attacks since 2019.

With fear tightening its grip, many residents have fled, dreading the next onslaught.

“This is not the first time, and it won’t be the last if nothing is done. We are living in fear. Our people are being killed, and the authorities are watching,” lamented a local elder.

The massacre, which targeted a place of worship meant to be a sanctuary of peace, has left Nigerians questioning the state of security in the country.

As mourning families count their losses, one question lingers—how many more must die before something is done?
