President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing the United States’ withdrawal from the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
The order, signed on Tuesday, also mandates a review of US participation in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Explaining his decision, Trump stated, “I always felt the UN has always had tremendous potential, but it’s not living up to its potential.”
He further stressed the need for fairness within the UN, asserting that it must be just to countries that “deserved fairness.”
The move reflects the administration’s stance on US-UN relations, marking a shift in America’s engagement with international bodies.
