Former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has cast doubt on his successor, Siminalayi Fubara’s ability to steer through the political crisis that has engulfed the state, saying that there is no indication he will effectively govern the oil-rich state.

Addressing a massive crowd of supporters on Saturday, Wike criticised Fubara for surrounding himself with individuals who, according to him, do not have the state’s best interests at heart.

He claimed these were the same people who had desperately sought the governorship position before he chose Fubara.

Mocking the governor over recent political setbacks, Wike referenced the Supreme Court ruling that ordered Fubara to re-present the 2025 budget to the Martin Amaewhule-led 27 lawmakers and reconduct the state’s local government elections.

“You [Fubara] surrounded yourself with people who wanted to be governor, whom I said ‘no, these people don’t mean well for Rivers State.’

“They are the ones surrounding you, giving you advice. Do you think you will succeed?

“They will give bad advice, and look at what bad advice is doing to you. You are already down 2-0, and there’s more to come.”

Wike’s derisive comments come amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, where the power struggle between him and Fubara continues to affect governance.
