The Rivers Restoration Movement (RRM) has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to support another Ijaw candidate for governor if Siminialayi Fubara is impeached.

In a statement signed by its Director-General, Johnson Georgewill, and Secretary, Mrs. Sarima Akpata, the group affirmed its full support for Wike’s stance on the political crisis in Rivers State.

They corroborated the minister’s position that “when the law speaks, violence, threats, and unguarded statements cannot reverse the law.”

Citing Section 188 of the Nigerian Constitution, the RRM emphasised that a governor can be impeached if found guilty of an impeachable offense by the state’s House of Assembly.

The group also highlighted that, apart from Bayelsa, the Ijaws cannot unilaterally produce a governor in states like Delta, Edo, Ondo, Akwa Ibom, or Rivers.

They argued that since Governor Fubara has allegedly committed multiple impeachable offenses, Wike should consider supporting another Ijaw candidate to complete the tenure, ensuring fairness and equity for the Ijaw people in Rivers politics.
