President Bola Tinubu has commended the National Assembly for its “decisive and patriotic ratification” of the state of emergency in Rivers State.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the approval as “a critical step to restoring stability after a protracted political crisis that paralysed governance in the state and endangered national economic security for over 15 months.”

He praised the legislature’s leadership for prioritising the security and welfare of Rivers people over partisan interests and acknowledged their thorough review of classified security reports, which underscored the urgency of intervention.

The President noted that the six-month emergency would enable the newly appointed Sole Administrator to restore order, address systemic failures, and foster dialogue among warring factions.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to working closely with the National Assembly to promote peace, economic resilience, and equitable development nationwide, Tinubu thanked Nigerians for their understanding and urged all stakeholders to support efforts to restore stability in Rivers State.
