Former Rivers State Head of Service, George Nwaeke, has dismissed claims by his wife, Florence, that he was kidnapped, insisting he is safe and chilling in Abuja.
In a video released early Saturday, Nwaeke stated that he voluntarily traveled to Abuja to report himself to security agencies regarding recent developments in Rivers State.
“I am in TRANSCORP Abuja. I arrived this morning from Port Harcourt to meet security agencies and report myself, as well as the troubling events happening in Rivers State. I resigned as Head of Service on Monday because of these developments,” he explained.
Reacting to his wife’s viral video, in which she expressed fears over his safety, Nwaeke claimed she was misled.
“I just saw a video of my wife trending. She was told I had been kidnapped and given a script to read. I want to make it clear—I am not kidnapped. I am in Abuja, working.
“When I was Head of Service, my wife was not involved in my official duties. That script she read is null and void. I am safe and sound. I will report myself to the appropriate security agencies because Abuja houses their headquarters, and I feel safer making my report here,” he added, insinuating that wife may have acted on the directives of suspended Governor Siminalaye Fubara.
Recall that Florence Nwaeke, in a tearful interview on Friday, had raised the alarm after losing contact with her husband following his resignation.
She recalled that he had called her upon arriving in Abuja, reassuring her of his safe landing. However, she became alarmed after seeing an online interview, which she claimed did not reflect her husband’s usual demeanor.
“I said, ‘That is not my husband. That is not my husband,’” she recalled.
Desperate for answers, she continued, “I sent him a message: ‘Are you under duress? Have they kidnapped you? Talk to me now. Why are you not responding?’ But he didn’t reply. His numbers are not going through. Nigerians, help me!”
Florence’s concerns surfaced after her husband publicly accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of orchestrating the bombing of the Rivers State House of Assembly in 2023 to prevent his impeachment.
Nwaeke also alleged that he witnessed a bag of money being handed over to former Assembly leader Edison Ehie, now Fubara’s Chief of Staff, to execute the attack on the Assembly Complex along Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.
With conflicting accounts from the couple, the situation continues to generate public interest, raising further questions about the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.
