Former Senator Shehu Sani has officially expressed his intention to contest for the Kaduna Central senatorial seat in the 2027 elections.

Speaking at his Kaduna residence during his Eid-el-Fitr address on Sunday, Sani outlined his political aspirations, stressing that his decision would be guided by prevailing political dynamics.

He said, “Any politician contesting an election depends on the political equation that determines the position to vie for. If the conditions are right and the equations are favourable, I will offer myself to contest specifically for the Kaduna Central senatorial district.”

Sani, who represented Kaduna Central in the Senate from 2015 to 2019, lost his seat following a political rift with former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, which led to his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, while announcing his senatorial ambition, Sani reaffirmed that his immediate priority is securing a second term for Governor Uba Sani.

He stated, “For now, our priority is to see that the incumbent governor, Uba Sani, is re-elected. We will work with all our might and strength to achieve this. We know there will be challenges and opposition, but we are well prepared for all forces.”

Beyond politics, Sani called on Muslims to use the Eid-el-Fitr period to pray for peace and national unity. He also condemned the recent killing of hunters in Edo State and urged security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.

He said, “If citizens cannot move freely across the country, then we are not truly a nation. If individuals take the law into their hands for any reason, it means there is no government or authority.”

Sani further urged Nigerians committed to national progress to work towards unity and peace, stressing the importance of safeguarding democracy despite prevailing challenges.

He also called on the government to uphold fundamental human rights, particularly the right to life, as a crucial step toward ensuring national stability and development.
