Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has urged the Edo State Government to publicly parade those responsible for the gruesome murder of 16 travellers in Uromi, Edo State.
He made the appeal while receiving Edo Governor Monday Okpebholo, who led a delegation to Kano to offer condolences over the tragic incident.
Welcoming his Edo counterpart, Yusuf expressed profound grief over the killings, noting that most of the victims were from Kano.
“It is a known fact that our people were traveling from Port Harcourt through Edo State when they were brutally attacked. Many were maimed, burnt, and murdered in cold blood,” he lamented.
Governor Yusuf acknowledged the swift response of the Edo government, commending Okpebholo for visiting the crime scene and ensuring the victims received a proper burial in accordance with the law.
He also praised security agencies for their prompt arrests and stressed the need for justice.
“Kano people trust you, and you have assured us that the perpetrators will be brought to justice. We appeal to you to ensure that they are not only arrested but also paraded publicly so that the world sees those responsible for this heinous crime,” Yusuf said.
Reiterating Kano’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, he cautioned against reprisals, stressing that Nigeria belongs to all citizens.
He called on leaders to collaborate in preventing such tragedies and urged security agencies to take decisive action against those inciting violence.
Earlier, Governor Okpebholo reassured the people of Kano that justice would be served, disclosing that 14 suspects had already been apprehended and were being transferred to Abuja for further investigation.
He reaffirmed his commitment to fostering harmony between the Hausa community in Edo and their hosts, stressing that the attack did not reflect the values of the state.
“I want to assure you that Mr. President was deeply disturbed by this incident and has directed security agencies to spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators to book,” Okpebholo said.
