Veteran Nigerian gospel singer Buchi Atuonwu, popularly known as Buchi, has opened up about the powerful incident that led him to abandon cultism and fully embrace Christianity.
In a recent interview, Buchi revealed that his transformation began while he was a student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where he was deeply involved in cult activities. He explained that at the time, he was heavily influenced by reggae music and was living a rebellious lifestyle.
According to Buchi, everything changed after he was invited to a Christian fellowship on campus. During one of the meetings, he encountered a message that touched him deeply. The preacher spoke about Jesus Christ’s unconditional love and how He came to save sinners, no matter their past. This struck a chord with Buchi, making him realize how empty his previous life had been.
He described the moment as “divine,” saying:
“I didn’t give my life to Christ because someone preached to me directly, it was during a fellowship meeting that the power of the message just hit me. I couldn’t resist anymore. That night, I walked out of cultism and walked into Christ.”
Buchi eventually became not just a born-again Christian but also a gospel minister and reggae gospel singer. He’s now known for using his music to preach the Gospel, combining his reggae roots with powerful Christian messages.
