Amid  criticism over perceived imbalance in federal appointments, Lagos-based APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe has raised an alarm about the continued marginalisation of the South-East region, warning of dire consequences if the trend persists.

Taking to his Facebook page on Saturday, Igbokwe lamented what he called the persistent exclusion of the region from key national considerations.

“If Nigeria continues to treat the South-East as if the zone does not exist or does not matter, the consequences will be huge,” he wrote.

“The civil war has ended, but the scars are still there. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Neglect of SE is bad,” Igbokwe added.

His comments add to the growing discontent over appointments made under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which many observers say have sidelined certain regions.

Senator Ali Ndume of Borno South had earlier voiced similar concerns, warning that a lack of regional balance could trigger political fallout.

In response, the Presidency has maintained that merit remains the core consideration for appointments under Tinubu’s leadership.
