Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has finally addressed persistent rumours about his sexuality, describing them as both “shocking” and a surprising sign of fame.
Speaking during an episode of Unfiltered and Extra Spicy, Arukwe recalled the moment he first heard the speculation, saying it caught him completely off guard—but also gave him hope that his rising profile in the industry was gaining traction.
“The worst rumour I have heard about myself was that I am gay. I was shocked to my bones, but I was somehow excited too because I heard that when people start saying those kinds of things, you will blow, so I thought to myself, ‘this must be it,’” he said.
Arukwe made it clear that if the rumours were true, he would have nothing to hide and would proudly own his identity.
“If it is my sexuality, I would own it. I’ll be one of the hottest around.”
While denying being gay, the actor expressed deep affection for his LGBTQ+ friends and made it known that he holds no prejudice against anyone based on their sexuality.
“I have a lot of gay friends, and I love them. They are my people so I know their sexuality.
“I love them to death and I have nothing against them whatsoever. But I’m not going to agree to what I’m not just because to some people they are a certain type of people. For me, let God judge.”
With his characteristic blend of confidence and candour, Arukwe used the opportunity to affirm his support for inclusivity, even as he stood firm in his personal truth.
