Former Niger-Delta militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has called on northern political leaders to rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s reelection bid in 2027.
Tompolo, the owner of Tantita, a private security company, whose contract for the protection of oil pipelines was recently renewed by the Tinubu-led Federal Government, threw his weight behind the President for a second term, praising him as a “good person” with the necessary experience to elevate Nigeria to greater heights.
His statements came during an interview with Arise Television, amid reports of a coalition move spearheaded by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and other northern politicians, including former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, aimed at unseating Tinubu.
Appealing directly to the North, Tompolo declared that Tinubu deserves to complete two terms in office, just as former President Muhammadu Buhari did.
“We’ll do our part, even go out of our boundary to the northern part of Nigeria to talk to our brothers so that he will get his second tenure. Tinubu is a good person; he has the experience to bring this country to a higher level,” he said.
“I am travelling across all the northern states to appeal to them. Buhari spent eight years now. So, we don’t want anybody to cause any problem. Let Tinubu have his eight years too and go then we will look for another person. There is no need for anybody to say we have a monopoly of power. We must allow Tinubu to do his eight year, we will appeal to everybody and by the grace of God everybody will support us.”
Tompolo further noted that traditional rulers in Delta State have already endorsed Tinubu for a second term, reinforcing the growing southern support for his continued leadership.
