Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, says President Bola Tinubu and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, are making concerted efforts to ensure Siminalayi Fubara’s return as governor of Rivers State.
Tompolo, who chairs Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, an oil pipeline surveillance company fighting crude oil theft across the Niger Delta, spoke during an interview with Arise TV on Saturday.
Recall that on March 18, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing the prolonged political crisis.
He subsequently suspended Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and the entire Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months, appointing retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as the state’s sole administrator.
The move triggered widespread protests, with many citizens calling for a quick restoration of constitutional order.
Addressing the situation, Tompolo assured that Fubara would soon be reinstated as governor, noting that efforts to resolve the crisis were ongoing.
“The duly elected governor of Rivers is coming back,” Tompolo said.
“The problem between Wike and Fubara is between ‘boy and oga’. Our president is one person who has been protecting democracy, and there is no way he is truncating it. We are doing everything, including the president and Wike. Fubara is coming back as governor.”
It would be recalled that Fubara recently met with President Tinubu in London to discuss pathways to resolving the Rivers political impasse, with the suspended governor reportedly expressing willingness to make compromises to facilitate his return to office.
