United States federal agencies, including the FBI and IRS, are scheduled to release documents related to a decades-old drug investigation allegedly linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday, May 2, 2025, following a U.S. District Court order.

The agencies expected to comply include the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Department of State, Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), U.S. Attorneys, and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

The release stems from a ruling by Judge Beryl Howell of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in early April. The judge ordered all relevant agencies—except the CIA—to jointly file the status of outstanding issues and release the documents, stating that withholding them was “neither logical nor plausible,” according to Premium Times.

The court’s decision follows a lawsuit filed in June 2023 by Aaron Greenspan, an American citizen, under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).

Greenspan accused the agencies of failing to respond within the legally required timeframe to requests for documents relating to federal investigations allegedly involving Tinubu and Abiodun Agbele.

Between 2022 and 2023, Greenspan had submitted 12 FOIA requests across six U.S. agencies, seeking criminal investigation records on four individuals: Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lee Andrew Edwards, Mueez Abegboyega Akande, and Abiodun Agbele — all allegedly linked to a drug ring.

Legal experts have noted that the court order could still be appealed.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Presidency has responded to the development, stating that the documents being sought contain nothing new and do not indict President Tinubu.
