Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has rewarded Remo Stars players and technical crew with a generous N10 million cash gift following the club’s first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title triumph.
Remo Stars manager, Daniel Ogunmodede, confirmed the gesture on Wednesday in a chat with TheCable, adding that the money would be shared equally between the players and coaching staff.
The Ikenne-based side clinched the historic title on Sunday after a dramatic 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes, thanks to a late strike by Olamilekan Adedayo.
The victory secured an unassailable 10-point lead over second-placed Rivers United, crowning them NPFL champions for the first time since their establishment in 2010.
The momentous day also coincided with the birthday of the club chairman, Kunle Soname, elevating the celebratory mood in Ikenne.
Osimhen’s gesture adds to the wave of congratulations pouring in from across the football world, including one from President Bola Tinubu, who urged the team to replicate their domestic form in continental competitions.
This landmark victory marks the first NPFL title for a privately owned club since Ocean Boys in 2006.
Remo Stars also became the first South-West team in 25 years to win the league, echoing the legacy of the now-defunct Julius Berger FC.
The NPFL trophy will be officially presented to Remo Stars on Sunday, May 5, during their home fixture against Ikorodu City FC.
