Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, recently paid a clandestine visit to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, pleading for reconciliation amid their ongoing political crisis in the oil-rich state, MUK TV has gathered.

The visit reportedly took place at Wike’s Abuja residence just days after Fubara met with President Bola Tinubu in London and assured the president to make compromise.

It would be recalled that Tinubu declared an emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Fubara alongside other elected officials for an initial six months.

Sources disclosed that Fubara was led to Wike’s residence by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and former Ogun governor Olusegun Osoba.

“Fubara was brought to the minister’s house on Friday, 18 April. He prostrated for Wike while holding his legs and calling him, ‘My Oga’,” one insider revealed.

“He was in Wike’s house till the wee hours of Saturday, 19 April,” the source added.

While details of the closed-door meeting remain undisclosed, it was gathered that Fubara was directed to return to Rivers State and meet with elders and supporters to reveal the “truth” about his fallout with Wike.

Confirming the meeting, Wike’s spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, told PREMIUM TIMES he was aware of the visit but was not privy to what transpired.

When approached for comments, Fubara’s spokesperson, Nelson Chukwudi, said, “I don’t respond to this kind of inquiry. You can contact the commissioner for information.”

The once cordial relationship between Fubara and Wike soured less than six months after Fubara assumed office.

The crisis led to a deep split in the Rivers State House of Assembly, with 27 lawmakers aligning with Wike and only three remaining loyal to Fubara.

Fubara had recognised the three-member faction, arguing that the defectors lost their legislative seats after moving from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
