Valentine Ozigbo, a former staunch supporter of Peter Obi and ex-Labour Party (LP) chieftain, has declared that the party is crumbling and will soon face a mass defection of its top members.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Ozigb, who recently joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), said LP is no longer the vibrant political force it appears to be, warning that “over time people are going to see it” unravel.
“LP is not exactly what people think they are seeing. I have made my case. Unfortunately, LP is almost in its dying days and over time people are going to see it,” he said.
According to Ozigbo, a former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, several LP lawmakers have privately informed him of their intentions to jump ship ahead of the next election cycle.
“You can see how a lot of people are leaving the party. There is hardly any elected member of the party who I have spoken to that is intending to run his re-election campaign under the same platform,” he added.
Defending his decision to defect, Ozigbo said he joined the APC not to excuse its flaws but to push for internal reforms.
“The Labour Party for me is in the past. I took a decision to go into APC not because I’m here to justify the actions of APC. I’m here as a catalyst for change,” he stated.
Ozigbo also took a swipe at Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra, accusing him of political doublespeak—alleging that the APGA governor maintains covert ties with the APC.
“I don’t want the type of deal where Soludo is APGA in the afternoon and APC at night. You create confusion. You are not strengthening the party,” he said.
“If you want to be a man, be a man. If you want to be a woman, be a woman. If Soludo wants to be APGA, be APGA. Be proud of your APGA,” Ozigbo said.
Despite joining APC in February to contest its gubernatorial ticket, Ozigbo lost to Nicholas Ukachukwu and has since filed a legal challenge over alleged irregularities in the primary.
