Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, says he and fellow opposition leaders are feeling the same economic hardship as ordinary Nigerian, and must unite to remove President Bola Tinubu from power in 2027.

Amaechi made the declaration during his birthday lecture held in Abuja on Saturday.

The event drew notable opposition figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, as plans for a formidable 2027 coalition took shape.

“We are all hungry. All of us are. If you are not hungry, I am. So, for us, the opposition, if you want us to remove the man in power – Tinubu – we can remove him from this power,” Amaechi stated.

Reflecting on his student activism days, the former governor recalled how ideological unity once trumped ethnic or religious divides during protests against military rulers like Ibrahim Babangida and Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking at the same event, El-Rufai—once a major backer of Tinubu’s 2023 presidential campaign—echoed the call for a united front against the current administration.

“Nigeria is in its biggest trouble since 1914, and that is why we are together working and conspiring to build a coalition to take Nigeria back on track because it is off track,” El-Rufai said.

In a scathing critique of the present leadership, El-Rufai did not mince words.

“It has turned to this level because we have allowed bandits, not the ones in the bushes but the ones in the urban areas called the urban bandits, to take over leadership,” he said.
