The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the brutal kidnapping and murder of a female bank manager in Onitsha, even after collecting a ransom of ₦14 million from her family.

In a statement released on Sunday, police authorities revealed that the suspects, identified as Monday Egbe, 32, and Kenneth Nnoga, 28, were apprehended in a neighboring state after weeks of intensive investigation.

The case, which sent shockwaves through the state earlier this year, involved the abduction of the victim, Ifeoma (surname withheld), whose lifeless body was discovered on January 13, 2025, along Nnobi Road. Disturbingly, her eyes were found bound, suggesting she may have been killed shortly after the ransom was paid.

Operatives, acting on credible intelligence, traced the suspects to their hideout where they were successfully arrested without incident,” the statement read. “Both individuals are currently undergoing detailed interrogation to uncover the full network behind this heinous crime.”

Police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to securing lives and property across Anambra, vowing that the perpetrators of this “gruesome and senseless crime” will face the full weight of the law.

Our mandate is clear — justice must be served. No criminal will go unpunished under our watch,” Orutugu said.

The tragic killing of Ifeoma, a respected banker and community figure, has reignited public outcry over rising cases of abduction-for-ransom in parts of the state. Residents are urging law enforcement agencies to intensify surveillance and dismantle criminal networks operating within and beyond state borders.
