Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P and formerly one half of the music duo P-Square, has recently spoken out about a longstanding financial dispute involving his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye. The conflict centers on allegations of misappropriated royalties and unauthorized financial dealings.
Peter has accused Jude of secretly establishing a company named Northside Music Limited, which allegedly collected and controlled P-Square’s digital royalties without the knowledge or consent of the group members. According to Peter, Jude and his wife were the sole directors of this company, with Jude’s wife holding an 80% stake. Peter claims that he was excluded from financial decisions and denied access to the group’s bank accounts, which were solely managed by Jude. He also alleged that backend royalty data was manipulated, significantly reducing the value of their music catalogue.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Jude Okoye and Northside Music Limited on multiple charges, including the alleged misappropriation of over $1 million and £34,000 in royalties from companies like Lex Records Limited, Kobalt Music Services Limited, and Mtech Limited. The EFCC also alleges that Jude used funds suspected to be proceeds of crime to purchase a property worth ₦850 million in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Jude has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The trial is ongoing, with Peter expected to be cross-examined when proceedings continue.
