The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has made a passionate appeal to Nigerians to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, likening the current national sacrifices to the spirit of Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion, celebrated during Eid-el-Kabir.
Speaking at the Eid prayer ground in Iwo, Osun State on Friday, the monarch defended the tough reforms of the Tinubu administration, saying they were essential for rebuilding a nation long weakened by the failures of previous governments.
Oba Akanbi drew a parallel between the sacrifices being demanded of Nigerians and the bold choices needed to move the country forward.
According to a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Alli Ibraheem, the traditional ruler said, “Patriotic Nigerians have a duty to promote the truth by supporting President Bola Tinubu’s second term in office. That support is crucial to restoring Nigeria through bold and aggressive reforms.”
He emphasized that Tinubu has dared to do what past leaders failed to—confront economic realities head-on.
“Some of the critics who doubted him before his emergence are now embracing his reforms. In the end, we will all laugh,” the monarch added.
Describing Tinubu as “a president of many firsts,” Oba Akanbi praised the fuel subsidy removal as a tough but necessary move to free Nigeria from unsustainable financial burdens.
He urged citizens to join what he called the “Tinubu’s moving train,” cautioning that any attempts to derail the nation’s progress would be in vain.
*“I urge Nigerians to see beyond the immediate and give unwavering support to President Tinubu,” he said.
“The reforms are beginning to yield results. Workers’ wages are improving. Food prices are beginning to drop. We are getting closer. Let’s all be agents of truth, progress, and national growth.”
The Oluwo’s message, delivered during one of Islam’s most significant holidays, struck a patriotic chord, calling on Nigerians to be resilient and forward-looking in the face of short-term pain for long-term gain.
