The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a comprehensive three-day weather forecast, warning of widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across various regions of the country from Sunday, June 8 to Tuesday, June 10.

In its weather outlook released on Saturday, NiMet advised Nigerians to brace for weather disruptions, particularly in areas prone to strong winds and flooding, as the rainy season intensifies.

Sunday Forecast
According to the agency, thunderstorms and moderate rains are expected on Sunday morning in parts of Taraba and Adamawa in the northern region. By afternoon and evening, thunderstorms will likely spread to Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, Jigawa, Borno, Gombe, and Bauchi States.

The North-Central region is expected to begin the day with cloudy skies, followed by thunderstorms and rainfall later in the day in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Nasarawa, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, and Plateau.

In the South, a cloudy morning is expected, with showers anticipated later in Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Edo, Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa.

Monday Forecast
NiMet predicts early morning thunderstorms in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Bauchi in the North, with more widespread rains expected later in Sokoto, Taraba, Adamawa, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Borno, and Kaduna.

North-Central states, including the FCT, Niger, Kogi, and Nasarawa, will experience morning thunderstorms, while Plateau, Kwara, and Benue are expected to see more storm activity by evening.

In the South, morning rains are likely in Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom, with heavier showers expected across the entire southern belt later in the day.

Tuesday Forecast
NiMet anticipates isolated morning thunderstorms over Zamfara and Kaduna in the North, while afternoon and evening rains will spread to Taraba, Kano, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, and Borno.

The North-Central region, including Niger, Plateau, and Benue, will see early rains, followed by thunderstorms in the FCT, Kogi, Nasarawa, Kwara, and Benue later in the day.

Southern cities like Lagos and Bayelsa will wake to morning showers, with all southern states expected to receive rainfall by afternoon.

Safety Advisory
The agency warned that strong winds may precede thunderstorms, posing risks to buildings, trees, and road users. Residents are urged to fasten loose objects, disconnect electrical appliances during storms, and avoid sheltering under trees.

NiMet also called on airlines to obtain detailed weather briefings for safer flight operations and advised the public to stay updated through official weather channels.

“Stay safe, stay informed,” the agency emphasized.
