President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mocked Nigeria’s opposition parties, openly expressing delight at the internal crises tearing them apart.

Speaking during a joint sitting of the National Assembly on Thursday to mark this year’s Democracy Day, Tinubu welcomed new defectors into the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), seizing the moment to ridicule the turmoil in both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP).

With the PDP and LP currently grappling with internal rifts and a wave of defections, Tinubu’s comments appeared to strike directly at their vulnerabilities.

“Political parties fearful of members leaving may be better served by examining their internal processes and affairs, rather than fearfully conjuring up demons that do not exist.

“For me, I will not say, try your best to put your house in order. I will not help you to do so, either,” Tinubu said.

He went further, adding, “It is indeed a pleasure to witness you in such a disarray.”

The statement drew applause from several lawmakers and politicians present in the chamber.

Tinubu’s comments come at a time when prominent figures within both the PDP and LP have voiced dissatisfaction and are rumored to be considering a shift to the APC.
