The Federal Government has announced plans for the emergency evacuation of Nigerian citizens currently stranded in Israel and Iran, as tensions between the two countries spiral into a dangerous conflict.

In a statement issued Tuesday night, Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that the Nigerian embassies in Tel Aviv and Tehran are already working to identify and assist affected citizens.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform that following the escalation of the crisis between the State of Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Federal Government is finalising arrangements for the emergency evacuation of stranded Nigerians in both countries,” the statement read.

Nigerians residing in the conflict zones have been urged to stay calm, adhere to local safety protocols, and register immediately with the nearest Nigerian mission. The embassies are actively compiling lists and offering support.

“The Ministry commends the efforts put in place by our Missions in Tel Aviv, Israel, and Tehran, Iran, for their dedication and commitment to reaching out to the Nigerian community in these difficult times,” Ebienfa added.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad, stating that it is working closely with international partners and local authorities to ensure a smooth evacuation.

In addition to the evacuation measures, the government renewed its call for peace in the region. “Nigeria reiterates its call for the immediate cessation of hostilities and urges all parties involved to embrace dialogue, respect international humanitarian law and prioritise the protection of civilians,” the ministry stated.

This move follows Israel’s intense airstrike campaign launched last Friday, which reportedly hit nearly 100 sites across Iran. The attacks allegedly claimed the lives of top Iranian military figures, including General Mohammad Bagheri and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander Hossein Salami.

In response, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, labeled the strikes a “declaration of war” and threatened a “bitter and painful” retaliation, with the Iranian military promising an unlimited response.

Details regarding evacuation schedules and logistics will be communicated through official government channels in the coming days.
