Veteran music executive and Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy has reflected on some of the artists he regrets not signing, admitting that admiration and circumstance sometimes led to missed opportunities in his career.

Speaking candidly in a recent interview shared on X on Wednesday, Don Jazzy mentioned singers Simi and Teni as two acts he wishes he had brought under his label. “I like Simi. I didn’t sign her. I wish I did. I like Teni. I wish I did,” he said.

He also revealed that there was a chance to sign Davido, but he chose to step back, believing the singer’s success was inevitable. “I had the opportunity for Davido, obviously, but I didn’t because I kind of figured that he would be fine.”

On the subject of Wizkid, Don Jazzy explained that the singer was already under another label at the time. “To Wizkid, obviously, I couldn’t because Banky got to him first. That would have been amazing.”

He went on to recall a near signing with rapper Falz, saying, “Falz, I love his work, and we almost actually had a deal. Well, it didn’t work out.”

Wrapping up, Don Jazzy acknowledged the challenges of the music business, stating, “But then at the end of the day, you cannot sign everybody.”
