Hauwa Yusuf, a revered veteran broadcaster and former newscaster with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), has died in the United Kingdom after a period of illness. She passed away on Thursday, June 26, 2025, according to a statement released by the Central Association of Nigerians in the United Kingdom (CANUK).

A prominent figure in Nigerian journalism, Hauwa Yusuf was celebrated for her poise, professionalism, and commanding presence on television. During her illustrious career with the NTA, she became one of the most recognizable faces in Nigerian broadcast news, delivering bulletins with clarity and authority that endeared her to millions.

Born in Funtua, Katsina State, Yusuf built a legacy that transcended borders. At the time of her passing, she was deeply involved in community leadership within the Nigerian diaspora. She served as President of the Arewa Women’s League and held a role on CANUK’s Electoral Committee, where she championed transparency and women’s empowerment.

She was more than just a broadcaster; she was a mentor, a voice for the voiceless, and a pillar in our community,” CANUK said in its statement. “Her contributions, both in the media and in the UK Nigerian community, will be remembered with admiration.”

Yusuf’s impact was recently acknowledged when she was named a finalist for the prestigious GAB Awards 2024, a recognition of her continued relevance and dedication to service even in retirement.

Tributes have poured in from across Nigeria and the UK, with friends, colleagues, and admirers mourning her loss. Many have described her as a trailblazer who opened doors for women in media and tirelessly advocated for community development.

CANUK extended its heartfelt condolences to her children and loved ones, praying for her peaceful repose and celebrating the enduring legacy she leaves behind.
