A 55-year-old man, identified as Hamidu Ali, is on the run after allegedly hacking his 40-year-old wife to death with a machete in Koriyel Village, Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The Yobe State Police Command confirmed the shocking incident in a statement released on Saturday by its spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim.
According to the statement, the Tarmuwa Divisional Police Headquarters received a distress call around 11 a.m. on June 28, 2025, from residents of the village, reporting the brutal attack.
Hamidu Ali, 55, attacked and macheted his wife, aged 40, to death for reasons yet to be determined. The suspect fled the scene immediately after committing the act,” the police said.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect and assured the public that all necessary efforts are being made to bring him to justice.
The motive behind the fatal assault remains unknown as investigations continue.
The Yobe State Police Command has called on members of the public with useful information about the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward, assuring that confidentiality will be maintained.
