The Ogun State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abayomi Tella, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will be defeated in the 2027 general election and will accept the outcome, just as former President Goodluck Jonathan did in 2015.
Speaking to Daily Trust, Tella dismissed concerns over the wave of defections from opposition parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing them as insignificant.
“The number of defections does not determine victory. The ruling party will soon be engulfed in internal crises. By 2026, you will see many aggrieved members returning. The real electorate are not defecting anywhere,” Tella said.
He noted that Tinubu, as a democrat, would concede if defeated. “Jonathan was there, he saw the signs and accepted defeat. Tinubu is also human and will do the same,” he added.
Earlier in the week, Governor Dapo Abiodun received defectors from the PDP and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) at his office in Abeokuta. The delegation, led by former PDP chairman Dr. Sikirulai Ogundele and other notable figures, pledged their support to the APC government.
Abiodun welcomed them, describing their move as a commitment to unity and inclusive governance in Ogun State.
Tella, however, dismissed the defectors as inconsequential, except for Ogundele whom he described as a “true politician.”
“We are focused on our strategy. By 1 p.m. on election day in 2027, we will be victorious, Inshallah. Let them play their game, we are prepared,” Tella said.
