Kwara United won their first FA Cup in 60 years on Saturday, after defeating giant slayers Abakaliki FC in the final on Sunday.
They were favourites going into the game, but third-tier Abakaliki FC, who had claimed scalps from some NPFL clubs in the run-up to the final, put up a solid showing. Nonetheless, they still emerged win the win.
While the game itself did not have a lot of drama, the trophy presentation was quite strange. In saner climes, when a team wins a trophy, it is the captain of the team that lifts it alongside the other players.
However, for Kwara United, it was a totally different case. The administrators clad in their nice attires were the ones who lifted the trophy first before letting the player have a feel of the trophy they shed their sweat and blood for.
After the celebrations at the stadium, Kwara United scheduled their trophy parade for Monday. But unfortunately, it was an eyesore.
Clubs or sports teams that want to hold a trophy parade often use an open-top bus. But Kwara United did something different- they used a trailer.
The players sat on the edge of the trailer as it was driven notwithstanding the risk. One of the players could have even fallen off the trailer.
The club have been heavily criticized by Nigerian football fans, but it is not the first time. Most Nigerian clubs often stage shamanic trophy parades.
