Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, has declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) must be removed from office, insisting that the worsening state of the nation leaves Nigerians with no other option.
In a recent interview, Baba-Ahmed pointed to widespread hardship across all sectors—from victims of insecurity to traders, industrialists, farmers, transporters, and the youth—as evidence of a nation unified by collective frustration. He argued that the only path forward is to end the APC’s stranglehold on power.
He also noted signs of internal turmoil within the ruling party, highlighting the fading visibility of its key figures.
He said, “Nigerians don’t have a choice, APC must go. Even APC does not have a choice, APC must go.
“Where was Ganduje last week? Where is he today? Nigerian politicians don’t have a choice, APC must go. Victims of insecurity don’t have a choice, APC must go.
“Spenders of the Naira, industrialists, trades people, markets women and men, farmers, transporters, the youths; nobody has a choice in Nigeria, APC must go.”
His comments come as his former running mate, Peter Obi, formally joins a new coalition of opposition forces, which has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political vehicle to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Obi has declared that no single party or individual can transform Nigeria alone, stressing the need for a united political front to dismantle entrenched poverty, insecurity, and bad governance.
The coalition features heavyweight political figures including Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi—all expected to play central roles in the bid to unseat the APC and stop Tinubu’s re-election ambition.
