Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Umar Damagum, has said he is confident that prominent defectors like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Senate President David Mark will eventually return to the party.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Damagum downplayed the strength of the newly announced opposition coalition that unveiled the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its adopted platform.

At the unveiling on Wednesday, ADC leaders stepped aside to allow David Mark to emerge as Interim National Chairman, while former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola was named National Secretary.

Despite the buzz surrounding the coalition, Damagum remained firm that no political party in the country matches the inclusiveness and resilience of the PDP.

“To those that are contemplating, they should not, they have no place and there’s nowhere that will be as accommodating as our party. But if they feel there are, I will wish them good luck. But I know they will run back,” he said.

He also warned party members engaged in anti-party conduct to reconsider their actions or face consequences.

“I want to re-emphasise that if you are a member of the People’s Democratic Party, we are drawing a line for those who go to demarket the party. We are watching them and we will take appropriate actions at the right time,” Damagum added.
