Nigeria’s sprint queen, Tobi Amusan, delivered another electrifying performance on Saturday, finishing second in the fiercely contested women’s 100m hurdles at the prestigious Prefontaine Classic in Eugene.

Clocking a blazing 12.38 seconds—her second-fastest time this season—Amusan proved she remains a dominant force in the sport. She was narrowly edged out by Jamaica’s rising star, Ackera Nugent, who won in 12.32 seconds. American Kendra Harrison secured third place with a time of 12.50 seconds.

Though the event didn’t count toward the Diamond League standings, the competition featured a stacked lineup worthy of a world final. The race included top-tier athletes such as Danielle Williams, Masai Russell, and Tia Jones, making Amusan’s podium finish even more commendable.

Nicknamed the “Tobi Express,” the 2022 world champion and current world record holder (12.12 seconds) continues to impress as the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo draw closer. Her consistency at Hayward Field—a venue where she has repeatedly dazzled—cements her status as one of the sport’s elite.

Adding to the buzz was Amusan’s striking new look. The hurdler debuted a shaved head, a bold transformation that left fans buzzing on social media. While reactions were mixed, many saw it as a symbol of renewed determination.

The 2024 season brought its share of setbacks for the Nigerian icon, but her rebound in 2025 has been nothing short of remarkable. With renewed focus and undeniable form, Amusan is once again making it clear: she’s not just back—she’s gunning for gold.

As Tokyo looms, her Eugene performance stands as a loud warning to rivals — Tobi Amusan is hitting top speed at just the right moment.
