Former APC lawmaker and party chieftain, Adamu Garba, has expressed deep concern over the rising wave of defections from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), particularly in Northern Nigeria.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, Garba sounded the alarm about the political shift and urged APC members to reaffirm their loyalty to the ruling party.

“The rate at which members of PDP and APC are resigning to join the ADC in the north is alarming. “I think it is high time we, the members of APC, start writing our affirmation letters confirming our unwavering commitment to the membership of our party,” Garba said.

Garba’s statement comes amid a growing movement of top political figures gravitating towards the ADC.

The new coalition is seen by many as a formidable front ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with the aim of unseating President Bola Tinubu.

Among those backing the ADC platform are former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-governors Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-Rufai, Rauf Aregbesola, and other influential opposition leaders, who have voiced strong dissatisfaction with the current administration.

In response to the rising opposition, presidential spokesperson Daniel Bwala dismissed the ADC’s relevance, claiming the coalition lacks credible policy alternatives that can sway Nigerian voters.

Meanwhile, the ADC has accused unnamed figures within the Tinubu administration of plotting to sabotage the growing opposition front.

The APC, however, maintains that President Tinubu remains firmly in control and enjoys unwavering support, especially from the North. The ruling party declared that there is “no vacancy in Aso Rock” until 2031.

Atiku Abubakar, in a statement on Wednesday, described the Tinubu administration as “desperate,” adding that the government fears the growing strength of the ADC coalition ahead of the 2027 polls.
