A major breakthrough in the fight against banditry has been recorded in Kwara State with the arrest of a notorious ex-convict, Garba Karfi, who is alleged to have been serving as an informant and logistics supplier for armed bandits operating across Ifelodun, Edu, and Patigi Local Government Areas.
Karfi, a native of Ile Alapata in Share, Ifelodun LGA, was reportedly apprehended on Wednesday while attempting to deliver ammunition and other supplies to bandits. His arrest has been hailed by locals as a significant step towards restoring security in the troubled region.
Sources familiar with the case told Newsmen that Karfi had long been a menace in the area, with a criminal history stretching back decades. “He’s been known to us since 1998,” a resident revealed. “He once stole five cows in Bacita and served six months in prison after being convicted by the Bacita Area Court.”
Karfi is also accused of acting as a cattle rustler and arms courier for bandits. “He not only tips them off but buys cows on their behalf and supplies them with ammunition,” the source added. “He’s committed countless crimes, and many of us have been waiting for the law to catch up with him.”
The suspect reportedly confessed to acting as an informant during initial questioning. While security agencies have yet to officially confirm which unit is holding Karfi, a viral video showing his capture has circulated widely across social media, fueling calls for his immediate prosecution.
Community members claim Karfi once sought to become the Sarkin Alapata—a traditional title once held by his late father—but was rejected due to his tarnished reputation. His ambition, they believe, has further stirred suspicion and unrest within the Share community.
Local leaders and residents are now urging authorities to carry out a thorough investigation and ensure Karfi faces justice. “This is not the time for compromise,” a concerned resident stated. “He must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.”
