Senator Aishatu Ahmed, popularly known as Binani and the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Her media aide, Maulud Usman, confirmed her defection, revealing that she arrived in Yola over the weekend and made the announcement in the company of her political associates.
“It wasn’t planned as an elaborate event, and there was no media invite, but the declaration has been made,” Usman said, noting that a more formal unveiling is in the works.
Binani’s move comes just days after the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, also reportedly aligned with the ADC.
A former senator representing Adamawa Central from 2019 to 2023, Binani made headlines in 2022 when she defeated five male aspirants to secure the APC governorship ticket, a historic feat in the state’s political landscape.
Although she ultimately lost to PDP’s Ahmadu Fintiri in the general election, her defection to the ADC is seen as a strategic realignment ahead of future political contests.
