Former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 is almost inevitable, citing only two conditions that could derail his return to office.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Sheriff said the president’s second-term bid is virtually guaranteed unless elections are cancelled or Tinubu himself decides not to run.

“I can tell you for free, the only things that will stop President Tinubu from winning the election in 2027 are only two factors: one, if there are no elections in Nigeria; two, if he decides not to run,” he said.

Sheriff expressed full confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, describing his potential re-election as a walkover.

Turning to matters of national security, Sheriff addressed the ongoing Boko Haram insurgency in northern Nigeria. He emphasised that a lasting solution to the crisis lies in deeper cooperation with Nigeria’s neighbours.

“What should be done is that we have to have proper relationship with Cameroon, Chad, and Niger,” he said, highlighting the need for regional alliances to disrupt the group’s cross-border activities.

Sheriff also reflected on his role in shaping the political career of Vice President Kashim Shettima, revealing that he introduced the now VP to politics.

“I brought Senator Kashim Shettima into politics. He was a banker before. He was working in a bank,” he said.
