Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has issued a grave warning about the future of Nigeria, declaring that the country’s very survival is at risk if the All Progressives Congress (APC) retains power in 2027.
Speaking on Saturday in Sokoto during a grassroots mobilisation rally for the opposition coalition, now operating under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), El-Rufai said he is determined to help dislodge what he described as an “incompetent” ruling party.
“I’m not in politics to get anything for myself. I’m in politics to serve,” he said.
“When the government does not serve the people, it is my duty as a senior citizen to come out and condemn it and take steps to reverse the situation.
“That is why we come together as people opposed to the policies of this government to form the coalition, which has resulted in the adoption of ADC.”
The former APC stalwart declared he was ready to rally Nigerians nationwide in resistance against the ruling party.
“We are in Sokoto to begin the process of mobilising Nigerians against the APC government anywhere and the federal government in Abuja.
“I believe that if we allow this party and the government to continue for a second term in office, what remains of Nigeria’s social capital will be destroyed, and we may not have a country at all. This is a fight for our lives.”
El-Rufai, once a key architect of the APC’s formation, exited the party in March 2025 and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) after his ministerial nomination was blocked by the National Assembly due to alleged security concerns.
However, his stint with the SDP was short-lived. The party expelled him and slapped him with a 30-year ban over alleged forgery of membership credentials and other infractions.
Now a prominent voice within the ADC-led opposition alliance, El-Rufai has positioned himself at the forefront of efforts to unseat the APC in the next general election.
