The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has strongly condemned the recent conduct of Fuji legend, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, at an airport, warning that such actions could be classified as terrorism in many countries.
Speaking on Arise TV on Sunday, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mike Achimugu, criticised the singer for allegedly disrupting the departure of a ValueJet flight.
“In many parts of the world, what he did is considered terrorism. You cannot stop an aircraft from taking off—there is no justification for it,” Achimugu said.
He disclosed that the NCAA had launched an investigation to determine how KWAM 1 gained access to the restricted area where the incident occurred, vowing that everyone involved would face appropriate sanctions.
“Did the air traffic control clear the pilot to depart despite safety concerns? These are some of the questions the investigation will address,” he added.
The incident, which took place during scheduled ValueJet flight VK201, has drawn the attention of top authorities.
On August 7, the NCAA petitioned both the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to investigate the matter, alleging that Ayinde’s behaviour breached Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations.
KWAM 1, who has since apologised for his actions, has been placed on a no-fly list pending the conclusion of the probe.
