Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has alleged that Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi won the 2023 election, not President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Tonight on Monday, Lawal insisted that “based on the facts available to him,” Obi was the actual winner of the poll that brought Tinubu in as Nigeria’s 16th president.
Lawal, a consistent critic of the current administration, said the election results available to him at the time showed that Tinubu did not emerge victorious.
“The problem with Bola Tinubu is that he thinks I’m the one that offended him. I didn’t offend him, he offended me and he is full of himself, and he thinks that he now so-called president…I believe he didn’t win the election,” he said.
Explaining further, Lawal said he and his team closely monitored the election, collected data, and tracked results from polling units, alleging that some figures were altered.
When asked what offence Tinubu committed against him, Lawal responded: “He is arrogant. The guy has an arrogance that belies definitions.”
