Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has taken a bilateral step to boost the state’s economic prospects by appointing a Chinese national, Mr. Li Zhensheng, as Economic Adviser.
The appointment was announced on Thursday during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China Global Promotion Cooperation Research Centre in Bauchi.
Mohammed said the move is part of a strategic plan to position Bauchi as a rising hub for international cooperation. The long-term partnership, he noted, is expected to attract investments, accelerate infrastructure development, and foster collaboration across key sectors such as agriculture, education, healthcare, manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, and trade facilitation.
The MoU sets out a framework for cooperation, with individual project agreements to be negotiated and signed as needed.
“As part of the deal, a Bauchi State Representative Office will be established in China to oversee project implementation and ensure timely delivery,” the governor stated.
He further explained that the partnership aligns with the diplomatic vision of President Xi Jinping of China and President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria, aimed at strengthening ties both nationally and at the state level.
“This agreement is not just about infrastructure—it’s about transforming lives. We are opening Bauchi to the world,” Mohammed said, adding that the collaboration will boost foreign direct investment, create jobs, enhance skills, modernise critical sectors, and raise Bauchi’s global profile.
In his remarks, Zhensheng, who is also the Chairman of the China Global Promotion Cooperation Research Centre, assured that the Centre is committed to supporting Bauchi’s economic growth.
“We are committed to helping Bauchi achieve sustainable growth, modern infrastructure, and improved livelihoods,” he said.
